Doris Day and Carol Haney

With the passing of Doris Day this week I promised myself I would watch all of her musicals . I started with The Pajama Game 1957, which I found on Daily Motion. It might get deleted since her passing, so hurry up and watch it .
The 1950s fashions are out of this world in this flick, so bright and cheery.  Here are my favorites that Doris and her co-star Carol Haney wore. First is her simple blue pencil skirt ,white blouse and red belt to command attention as a supervisor for the gals. At the company's picnic we find her character becoming a bit softer in a white sundress and blue scarf ;she stands out in the crowd of colorful day dresses. When Babe and Sid are committed to each other we see her in tight black pants with a yellow stripped shirt, could have been a pajama top ( the movie lobby card has it colorized) Close to the ending she wears all black with touches of color, a polka dot scarf  and as the union rep she is serious in a pair of black pants, a black wool cardigan and a gingham red and white shirt with a stiff collar. The color red is a theme in this film, after all it's about love.

But my favorite is the ending, both she and her leading man John Raitt , (who happens to be Bonnie Raitt's dad),  they are wearing the economical pj's for love birds. Ah.... how cute!

Sorry for the blurry photo, this photo is protected. I had to take a screen shot. Well you get the idea of these famous pajamas. Aren't they the cutest, and yes they were copied after this movie.  Here's a better one...

Her co- star was Carol Haney, now she had some talent. Haney was discovered by Gene Kelly, just Google it.  She gets to wear some fabulous dresses also.  I just love her in this polka dot new look day dress that she wears in the office scene , and when she's singing to Sid.

For me the most dazzling dress is a dress we only get to see her in from the mid -waist and back, she moves to quickly to capture it. Her dress is a cocktail dress that is done in blue and trimmed in green with matching tassel.

Haney was such a good comedian in this restaurant scene at Hernando's Hideaway you gotta watch her closely, she a scream.  I was sad to find out that she died at age 39, she was a wonderful dancer and actress.

Vintage Helen Rose Dress and Lucille Ball

I just love this dress, fits like a glove . Its the type of dress that is so timeless, very contemporary.
It has been listed on my Etsy shop this past week.  I will be getting it dry cleaned and ready for purchase this week. Stay tuned. Update: This Helen Rose  dress is soon to be on my new website.

I love a dress with history attached, its by Helen Rose . She was a famous Hollywood designer from the 1936 to 1968-for stars like Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and numerous others, she made these actresses so glamorous.

Just this week I discovered my favorite movie that features her fashions  can be found in The Long, Long Trailer from 1953. I was so excited to discover this!  Helen Rose created so many fashions for this movie, and they are even being copied today.

- In this flick  you will see sweet party frocks, casual day dresses, a gorgeous wedding gown, and of course Lucy in cute jeans with blouses done in gingham checks and colorful stripes. Too cute for words.

Enjoy this romp through the movie...
